Objectives

The goal of this course is to cover some advanced topics in computer science. These topics are currently important and relevant from research and development points of view and students benefit from knowing them when starting their professional careers. The objective of this course is also to give students ideas on possible thesis topics and further professional development.

Pedagogical arrangements

The instruction method is based on a combination of lecturing and practical work including group work and exercises. Besides of that, the students are supposed to study at home by reading literature assigned and making homework exercises.

Content

The course covers the following topics:

1) Digitalization and digital transformation. How is the world changing?

2) Digital transformation of business. New business models and possibilities. What is the role of ICT?

3) Recent technologies and technological trends, e.g., Big Data, IoT. How is the ICT field changing?

Assessment

In this course, you will have to do several course assignments. These would require making class presentations, videos, and blogs. In the class, we are going to discuss the specific content of these assignments and requirements. The course is going to be graded based on the content and quality of the course assignments.

The assessment criteria are the following:

Grade 0: You did not submit all the course assignments or these assignments are not meeting the minimal quality requirements presented in the class.

Grades 1-2: You have delivered the assignments, which are prepared generally according to the requirements. You understand mostly correctly the subject matter concepts and are able to apply them. However, there is a room for development in your assignments. Technological, business challenges, and recommendations are rather general and not elaborated in details.

Grades 3-4: You have delivered the assignments, which are prepared according to the requirements presented in the class. You understand very well the subject matter concepts and are able to apply them correctly. You also understand well different factors affecting the digitalization and digital transformation of businesses and private life of people. Additionally, you are able to give useful development recommendations utilizing your knowledge and skills.

Grade 5: You have delivered the assignments on time, and these are prepared according to the requirements presented in the class. You understand deeply the subject matter concepts and are able to apply them correctly. You also understand well and are able to analyze critically different factors affecting digital transformation of companies and private life of people. Additionally, you are able to give useful development recommendations with proper argumentation in different situations.
