Osaamistavoitteet ja teemat

The student will be able to get by (survive) in simple everyday situations in Finnish. S/he will understand simple-structured written and spoken messages about everyday subjects. The aim is to achieve the level A1 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for languages).

Proficiency level A1 in CEFR: Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Pedagogical arrangements

Training session for iLinc e-learning and conferencing applications:

Training session 14.2.2017 at 15.00-16.00 Rovaniemi class A216, Tornio class 210, Kemi B103.

Headsets: Student must bring his/her own USB Headset to succesfully participate in iLinc-classes.

Pre-course assigment: Week 5 (30.1.-5.2.2017) Before contact lessons visit this link https://docs.google.com/document/d/18zR58XOxvwK_yv_n_R_0saPW9K9m7MZgcspM0j7yJXc/edit?usp=sharing and write Finnish words concerning the following topics HOME, STUDIES, TRAVELLING, SHOPPING and FOOD. Write at least 5 words to each topic with translation, e.g. bed = sänky.The aim of this preliminary exercise is to collect English-Finnish-vocabulary concerning topics above and use it actively during the course Survival Finnish.

Contact lessons: Week 6

taught on 8.- 9.2.2017 at 15.15-19 in Rovaniemi (notice, Amazing Race Rovaniemi 9.2. at 15.15 -->)

and on 11.2.2017 at 9-15.00 in Kemi.

iLinc lessons:

Week 7 14.-16.2.2017 at 16.00-20.00 (Rovaniemi, Kemi, Tornio).

Week 8 21.-23.2.2017 at 16.00-20.00 (Rovaniemi, Kemi, Tornio)

Final assignment: Week 9 (27.2-5.3.2017)

As the final exercise of the Survival Finnish course you have to make a video where you use as much and as difficult Finnish as possible.The video can for example be a conversation in Finnish, an introduction of your flat in Finnish or an action video My day in Rovaniemi / in Lapin AMK. The video should last approximately 5 minutes.Deadline for this exercise is 5.3.2017 .Upload the video file to your Google Drive (or somewhere else) and make it available to all who have the link and submit the link in Moodle. Alternatively you can create a YouTube account and channel and upload the files as private and submit the link in Moodle. You have completed the course after submitting the link.

Materiaali

Students are provided with learning material and assignments during the contact lessons and in Moodle, iLinc and GoogleDrive, which is also used for submitting material to students and for receiving students' assignments. Moodle key: survival

Sisältö

After the course student is able to tell her-/himself and her/his family in Finnish. He/she can understand simple Finnish phrases. Student is able to recognize some basic words and write simple phrases in Finnish. Student is able to recognize some characteristics of Finnish culture and way of life.

Arviointi

Course is completed, when student participates actively in contact lessons, completes his/hers homework, demonstrates oral skills and does final assignment.

The course is graded on the scale from 0 to 5, 1 representing the lowest pass grade and 5 representing the highest grade.

Grades:

  • 1: Student is able to use some Finnish words and understands some words of spoken Finnish. Understands some features of Finnish culture.
  • 3: Student is able to use some basic Finnish vocabulary and understands some sentences of spoken Finnish. Understands some aspects of Finnish culture and way of life.
  • 5: Student is able to useactively Finnish vocabulary he/she learnt and understands short discussions in Finnish.Student is ableto write short texts in Finnish. Understands aspects of Finnish culture, habits and way of life.
