Oblectives of the course:

The student

  1. masters the fundamentals of clinical pharmacology in the nursing of people from all age groups.
  2. deepens her or his previous skills and knowledge in drug therapy
  3. becomes aware of the responsibility and competencies of a Nurse in drug therapy
  • knows the principles of a safe IV and drug therapy
  • implements IV and drug therapy safely and aseptically

  • the drug therapy of the national diseases in Finland
  • the use of Pharmaca Fennica (Duodecimin lääketietokantain Terveysportti!)
  • the asepsis in IV and drug therapy
  • administering IV - medication, IV therapy, both adding drugs + electrolytes and diluting intravenous medications
  • IV drugs: medication during resuscitation and in anafylactic reaction, pain medication, medication affecting vascular system, sedation and antipsychotic medication
  • care and handling the central venous catheter
  • blood transfusion
  • documentation in drug therapy
  • safetyin drug administration
Assessment

Grade 0-5:

  • 80% presence during the course
  • Exam from the book, the seckond part of it (basis for the grade)
  • Dg exam of earlier courses (net test in Moodle) If approved, 2 points´+ to the essey exam points
  • Test in blood transfer (approved/failed) 2 points + to the points from essey from the book
  • Test in IV and drug therapy (approved/failed) 2 point + to the result of essey from the book
