By the end of the course you will:

  • Be able to frame personal experiences and global trends of the digital age with the theoretical frameworks of social- and technological change;
  • Have a more structured understanding about digitalization, and of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and imminent threats;

  • Evaluate many of the complexities of human development, as well as the cultural challenges that arise when intervening in social evolution, especially during times of fast-paced change;

  • Be aware of business and social implications of technological innovations and understand how these affect the organizational structures, processes, business models, and the digital ecosystems;

  • Be able to contribute in the design and development of smart, connected products and relevant ICT-Services

Pedagogiset järjestelyt

Louis Klomp & Teun Lucassen 4ECTS

You start the program with brainstorming about service design concepts for the problem you came up with. Your ultimate goal is to put your product in the market. You work in a multidisciplinary team with students from various study programs. The program is interesting for students from e.g. Information Science, Marketing, Media & Communication, Business IT, Industrial Design and several others. You formulate your goal together and everybody contributes using his or her own expertise.

During the program, several workshops will be organized, for instance about creativity, design, usability, digital communication and the use of social media, writing for websites, and user-centered & graphic design.The nature of the assignments can be very different between projects. In fact, there are only one requirement: It has to be digital media, has to be delivered in the end.

Course objective: General: During the course, students receive knowledge on role and value of business information systems for support managerial process in the contemporary organizations. The course cover explanation of the genesis of information systems, presentation of the contemporary directions of development of information systems from different classes ( domain information systems, integrated information systems, decision support information systems, expert systems, executive information systems, finance and banking information systems, marketing information systems) their role for development and realization of business strategy of mobile enterprises, explanation of general principles of design and implementation of the system, their influence on business, managerial processes and decision making.

Educational goals: student is able to solve the task and apply the chosen information systems

In the third and final part of this module, you get a practical approach to Digitalization and ICT-Services. Here, you are familiarized with the modern ICT-Service processes, information systems and tools used by the IT service area of Lapland University Consortium. In addition, you study the use of several state-of-the-art digital products and services and learn how business and individuals may utilize them to enhance their daily routines. As the role of information security is an important element, you are not only learning about the benefits but also from the risks that emerge from the use of these modern tools.
