Objectives

The objective of the course is to improve the participating talents' skills in communicating both verbally and in print, and to efficiently interact across varying business cultures. In order for professionals to accomplish tasks in hand within the competitive global economy, cross-cultural competence is a must for all experts due to the complexities of the international business environment.

Pedagogical arrangements

The objective of the course is to improve the participating talents' skills in communicating both verbally and in print, and to efficiently interact across varying business cultures. In order for professionals to accomplish tasks in hand within the competitive global economy, cross-cultural competence is a must for all experts due to the complexities of the international business environment.

Talents are made aware of the ever-changing world with special attention to the business field and, they learn to adjust and adapt themselves in various business environments to positively influence the conduct of international business.

This course is indispensable for international business professionals who need to communicate in a persuasive and compelling way.

Material

Study materials are provided in Moodle; additional materials will be found on the Internet and in other electronic databases. Additionally printed materials along with instructions are provided during the contact week in August 2017.

Content

The course focuses on involving the talents in exploring and tackling situations resulting from inter- and intra-organizational interactions in intercultural working environments. Efficient and effective communication strategies and techniques are pursued for messaging, reporting, concluding negotiations and meetings, and delivering dynamic presentations.

This 5 ECTS course requires 135 hours of student's workload. There will be four online contact lectures of four sessions each which are a must for all attending this course. The rest of the hours will be dedicated to reading, researching and preparation. Students are required to prepare in advance before attending the contact sessions in order to gain optimal outcome from the online sessions.

There will be a teamwork and additional self-supervised tasks which are to be accomplish as instructed.

Assessment

- mandatory and active participation during online sessions - a must (40% of the final grade)

- satisfactory completion of all assignments by the due dates (60% of the final grade)

Delayed assignments will be downgraded for poor time management and feedback will not be given on them. The last date for submitting late assignments is 15 May, 2019, upon failing to do so, the course needs to be taken again.
