The student will be able to get by (survive) in simple everyday situations in Finnish. S/he will understand simple-structured written and spoken messages about everyday subjects. The aim is to achieve the level A1 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for languages).
Proficiency level A1 in CEFR: Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
There are no contact lessons in this course.

**Final assignmentAs the final exercise of the Survival Finnish course you have to make a video where you use as much and as difficult Finnish as possible. The video can for example be a conversation in Finnish, an introduction of your flat in Finnish or an action video My day in Rovaniemi / in Lapin AMK. The video should last approximately 5 minutes. Deadline for this exercise is 10.3.2019. Upload the video file to your Google Drive (or somewhere else) and make it available to all who have the link and submit the link in Moodle. Alternatively you can create a YouTube account and channel and upload the files as private and submit the link in Moodle. You have completed the course after submitting the link.
Students are provided withlearning material and assignments in Moodle, Adobe Connect and GoogleDrive.
After the course student is able to tell her-/himself and her/his family in Finnish. He/she can understand simple Finnish phrases. Student is able to recognize some basic words and write simple phrases in Finnish. Student is able to recognize some characteristics of Finnish culture and way of life.
Course is completed, when student has returned the precourse exercise, participated actively in contact lessons, completed his/her homework and returned the final exercise.
The course is graded on the scale from 0 to 5, 1 representing the lowest pass grade and 5 representing the highest grade.
