The main goal is to learn the basics of stainless steel, its applications and the manufacturing technology. The student adopts the characteristic differences between the stainless steel grades, i.e. mechanical and corrosion properties, weldability, etc. Outokumpu Tornio Works technologies are reviewed in order to understand the influence of the manufacturing route on material properties.

 
Arviointikriteerit

Examination and attendance. Assessment 0-5. Excellent 5: Characteristics of ferritic, martensitic, austenitic and duplex stainless steels and differences between the grades. The main applications for different grades. Modern manufacturing technology including the principal of FeCr reduction, AOD converting, ladle metallurgy, hot and cold rolling, annealing and pickling and skin passing, tension levelling, grinding and brushing. Good 3: Characteristics of ferritic, martensitic, austenitic and duplex stainless steels and differences between the grades. The main applications of different grades. Overall manufacturing route from mine to the delivery of plate/coil products. Satisfactory 1: The main grades, i.e. ferritic, martensitic, austenitic and duplex stainless steels.
