Nursing Expertise and Special Issues in Medical Surgical Nursing 10 ECTS

Competence Goals:

The student forms a holistic picture of nursing work and knows how to develop nursing. The student can plan, implement, develop and assess nursing work from a holistic point of view based on the principles of nursing. S/he understands the importance of continuous professional development and the personal responsibility it includes. S/he is familiar with multi-professional teamwork and its meaning in nursing. The student bases his/her actions on professional ethics and evidence-based practices in medical surgical nursing work.

- Nursing: Chronical wounds, Atrial fibrillation, Deep Vena Thrombosis and Pulmonary embolus, Heart failure, Prostate ca,

Benign prostatic hyperplasia, Vascular disorders, Pacing, Care of a patient with Kidney Failure

- Workshops:a coronary thrombosis, subarachnoid bleeding, acute stomach, burns, cardiac rhythm disturbances,

hemo-andpneumothx, brain death and transplantations

Expertise in Nursing

- develop continuously herself/himself and the work practice of registered nurses and is able to make

decisions following proffessional ethics and evidence based nursing

- deepen her/his knowledge and skills in elaboration, implementation and evaluation of nursing comprehensively

taking intoaccount the principlesof nursingtake a qualitative and economic point of view of nursing into consideration

Intensive care nursing

- provides a foundation for caring for the critically ill patient,

- Nursing: respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation, acute coronary disorders, parenteral nutrition

and fluid balance management, different type of measurements in ICU.

- develops in critical thinking in complex situations while utilizing the nursing process

- understands the impact of the critical illness and the critical care environment on the adaptive responses

of the individual, family and group and is able to provide psychological support for them in their crisis

- is familiar with the intensive care environment and techical equipments in the intensive care

Student also:

- follows asepsis and patient safety everywhere

- records, reports and taking care of the patient follow-up care


Evaluation: 0-5

Final exam (skhole materials, intensive care nursing,expertise, special issues) gives the basics to the grade.

Dg-exam, case studies and seminars are effecting the grade.


-compulsory: information (diagnostic exam, The final test in medical calculation)

- 80 % lectures,100 % clinical practices,groupwork, simulation, workshops

- Skhole-exam and exam in ICU - nursing care are part of the grade

- Final Exam and Independent work
