Learning outcome:.

In particular they are able to find and utilise information about regional economic development in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia in order to predict potential impacts on regional business environments. Students understand economic concepts and are able to follow and interpret  economic information from different sources. Students are able to make an analysis of contemporary economic developments and make an assessment on how national and global economy affects the business locally. Students are able to make a critical examination of economies in the Northern and Barents region.

Introduction to economics: micro- and macroeconomics

                         Basic concepts of economics: economic cycles, GDP, inflation and

                         unemployment, public economy and public policies for economic stabilisation

                         Different economic levels (local, regional, national, global) and different actors

                         (public, private, 3rd sector)

                         Northern economic and societal development. Cases of Arctic and Barents region

                         economic development and integration

                         Assessment of the world economy, the regional economy and their effects on local business

                         Examination of economies, industries and businesses in the Barents region countries:

                         Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia
