Objectives

Learning outcome:

After studying this course, students have a command of the basic functions and processes of a company and understand their integration as well as the supportive roles of various functions. They are able to identify implications of external environment into the business operations. Students know the principles of business planning and understand the importance of planning process and goal setting for business.  Students understand the nature of managerial work. They know the major challenges management must deal and are able to discuss the significance of leadership in organizations. They are able to compare managing and leading and differentiate between them. Students are able to use various tools to assess and improve their own leadership capabilities. The student will get an overview of corporation legislation and is able to distinguish different types of companies and their special features. In addition student is able to utilise basic principles of corporate low. He/she is able to distinguish Finnish and European Union legislation, the hierarchy of rules, the source of legislation and the court of justice. Students are able to explain meanings and contents of the agreements in business. They are able to search and apply judicial knowledge.

Business environment (internal and external) and its features

The principals of business planning

The nature of managerial work (planning, organizing, leading and controlling)

Comparing managing and leading as phenomena

 Improvement plan for leadership qualities

Contract law: Legal procedures; Legal entities; Legal acts; Agreements; Representation; Compensation for damage

Trade register and different types of companies 

Legal issues in different companies/company forms

Special agreements and changing the form of a company; Closing down a company

Each part will be assessed separately,Business part 50%, Law part 50%
