Objectives

The student gets a general view on going through a database development process by using modern tools. The students handle the basics of SQL -language and are able to use it for their advantage in developing database applications. The student acquires a general view on basics of web programming, and is also able to produce independently an interactive database-based web application in PHP coding environment.

Objectives:
Students manage the basics of database modelling and design and SQL language and also are able to exploit these skills in web based database system development. Students get a overall view from the basics of web based software application development and are able to implement interactive web based database application in PHP programming enviroment.

Content

Conceptual modeling and database designing
Database development begins and is based on the Customer requirements. First section concentrates on modeling the content of the database by using the notation known in Sybase environment, Sybase Power Designer is used as a modeling tool.
SQL language
Oracle iSQL*Plus tool is putting on a practice when working with database. Most major and useful SQL commands are went through during the course.

Web application development
In this part of study unit - students will be concentrating to PHP programming enviroment.
PHP Hypertext Preprocessor is an open source server side scripting language. It lets programmers
create web pages with dynamic content that can interact with databases. Details of the content will be given on the first lesson.

Students create also a practical work in groups of 3-4 students.

Assessment
Requirements and assesment:
Final grade consists of two parts:  final exam and practical work. Both of them represents 1/2 of the final grade.
