Assessment criteria  
Pedagogical arrangements

Contact lessons, individual studying, assignments, oral presentation in Finnish, exam.


Students are provided with written materials and assignments. Moodle is used for submitting material to students and for receiving students assignments - Internet materials, listening comprehensions,Finnish language practices. Material on Finnish culture is also provided via email and is accessed through the Internet.

Books that are used as a material sources:

- Suomen Mestari 1 and 2

- Samalla kartalla 2 (Art House)

- Harjoitus tekee mestarin 1 - 4 (Art House)


Communications in everyday situations. Basic vocabulary of nursing and medical care. Professions and work. Parts of the body. Health and sickness. Clothes. Telephoning.

Grammar: Verbs, imperative, past tense, cases, object in practise and other grammatical structures, which are agreed with students in the beginning of the course.


Course is completed, when student participates actively in contact lessons, completes his/hers homework, writes a short essay, demonstrates oral skills and does exam.

The course is graded on the scale from 0 to 5, 1 representing the lowest pass grade and 5 representing the highest grade.


  • 1: Student can use some words of basic nursing vocabulary. Student can tell some features of his/her work. Student can write understandably very short messagesin Finnish.
  • 3: Student can use some basic nursing vocabulary. Student can tell shortly about his/her work and profession. Student can write understandably short messages and notesin Finnish.
  • 5: Student uses actively basic nursing vocabulary. Student tells fluently about his/her work and profession. Student writes accurately short messages and notes in Finnish.
