Content

The student participates in a small-scale study tour related to Arctic tourism in Northern parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway or Russia. The student works in a group which plans, implements and evaluates the study tour as a small-scale international project according to an assigned budget and thematic goals (e.g. programme incl. practical travel arrangements and company visits, lectures etc.). The student also develops his/her practical team working, tour leading and project management skills prior, during and after the study tour.

Learning objectives:

Student

  • familiarizes him/herself with Northern parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway or Russia
  • gets a thematic insight to the opportunities and challenges of the Arctic tourism within two of these regions
  • plan, implement and evaluate the study tour in a group as a small-scale international project according to an assigned budget and thematic goals
  • develops his/her practical team working, tour leading and project management skill

Content:

  • the basic tools and skills of project management, tour leading and team work
  • opportunities and challenges of the Arctic tourism within Northern parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway or Russia
  • thematic issues within Arctic tourism in the North
Assessment

Excellent

The student shows profound critical, analytical and reflective thinking and has excellent practical skills in the Study Tour in the North -project. He/she has excellent knowledge of the basics of project management and tour leading skills for planning, implementing and evaluating a small-scale international project in a group. In addition he/she has a strong motivation and an inspiring attitude towards team working. All the assignments are performed according to the instructions.

Good

The student shows critical, analytical and reflective thinking and has good practical skills in the Study Tour in the North - project. He/she has good knowledge of the basics of project management and tour leading skills for planning, implementing and evaluating a small-scale international project in a group. In addition he/she has motivation and a good attitude towards team working. All the assignments are mostly performed according to the instructions.

Satisfactory skills

The student is lacking critical, analytical and reflective thinking and has satisfactory practical skills in the Study Tour in the North - project. He/she has basic knowledge of the basics project management and tour leading skills for planning, implementing and evaluating a small-scale international project in a group. In addition he/she has a poor motivation and an indifferent attitude towards team working. All the assignments are mostly performed according to the instructions.
