Objectives

The students know the central areas (in medical-surgical nursing) of the nursing of working-age people and know and evaluate the effects of work, unemployment, the work community, and the work and living environments on people’s health, wellbeing, and ability to work. They know the contents of the Occupational Health Care Act. They learn evidence-based nursing and the recommendations on good medical practice (Käypä Hoito-suositus) The students are familiar with the contents of adults’ physical examinations and the most salient methods of health promotion. They are aware of the most typical work-related diseases of working-age people and the preventive health care measures against them. They know the basics of occupational protection, safety, and ergonomics related to nursing.

Surgical Nursing

The treatment chain/pathway of surgical patient.

Preparing and guideing patients to operations and other procedures.

Taking care and observing patients after operation

The patients´ complications after operations and how to help patient preventing complications and care of patients with complications

Assessment, implementing and documentating care of patients with different kind of wounds.

Care of a patient with pain

Fluid therapy and care of a patient with fluid balance problems.

Care process of a patient with TEP/THA.

Care process of a patient with stoma.

Care process of a patient with brest cancer.

Perioperative Nursing

Perioperative process ( pre-, intra- and postoperative phases )

The duties of the anesthesia-, instrument- and circulating nursein the team

working in Recovery ( PARU )

Internal Nursing

Orientation to the course: objectives, contents, assignments and evaluation.

·Characteristic of Internal nursing and care chain of the patient in Medical ward

·Care of a patient with cardiovascular diseases (Sydän- ja verenkierto-)

·Care of a patient with disorder of the cerebral circulation (AVH)

·Care of a patient with diabetes

Assessment

Surgical Nursing

Exam (grade 0-5), self evaluation and peer review, evaluation by the teacher and clinical supervisor, active participation during the workshops, lectures and teamworking.

You must be present 80% in the lectures, 100% during Training Camp, workshops and seminars.

The grade of the course comes basically from final exam. Other influencing factors are feed back from practical training, independent assignment, the activity during the course, and passing the other assignments during the course.
