The students know the main concepts, methods, and levels of health promotion as well as the forms of prevention. They can use information retrieved from health-promoting strategies and health policy programs in their work towards the promotion of health. They can recognise and foresee factors affecting the health of individuals and communities. They are familiar with the factors influencing the health-related behaviour of individuals and communities. They know the functions of health education, and how to support and activate individuals and communities in advancing the promotion of health, resources and functional abilities. They support individuals and communities in the process of change in their health behaviour. The students plan, implement, and evaluate a health-counselling event for an individual or a group using the latest methods of health promotion. They work by applying the ethical principles of nursing and make use of technology in health promotion.

Pedagogical arrangements



  • Contact lessons, independent work and group work, seminar
  • Different kind of functional methods
  • Students will be provided with appropriate source material
  • The course material can be found on Moodle and a list of the recommended bibliography will be provided when the assignments are appointed.
  • Students must be present in at least 80 % of the contact lessons. The seminar is obligatory.
  • Exam

  • knows and uses information about health promotion strategies and health political programmes in health promotion work
  • recognises and predicts the issues considering person and society health
  • knows what elements are important in health behaviour (both person and society)
  • knows the function of health education
  • activates and supports people and society to be responsible maintaining empowerment and working order
  • plans, carries out and evaluates health promotion event using new health promotion methods



Content: Most common health problems, national diseases, health promotion, nursing pedagogy
