Objectives

The students are familiar with the factors affecting families expecting a baby, mothers who have recently given birth and newborn babies. They know about the factors affecting the growth and development of children and youths, the related development monitoring methods, the research and treatment methods used in nursing, medical treatment and pharmacotherapy. The students recognise the challenges of caring for children of different ages and are able to respond to them using the relevant methods and a family-centred, multiprofessional approach. They know how to deal with clients in issues related to sexuality. They recognise the home care clients´ special qualities and learn how to make a care and service plan.

The material will be given by teacher in the beginning of the course

Content

Student knows the content of public health care, the growth and development of the child and adolescense, individual and communal factors in health promotion of children and adolescense.

Knows the basic in documenting and evaluation considering children and adolescense. Knows the Finnish National Vaccination Programme and the diseases that these vaccinations prevents. Knows the way of multidisciplinary co-operation.

Content: development of public health care (children and adolescense), childrens rights in Finland, how to work in child health center: aims, goals, principles, physical examination in certain age, growth and development of a child, sexual development, normal growth, vision and hearing tests, development of the speech, nutrition, vitamins, accidents, breast feeding, plays, rest, exercise, early intervene, supporting the parenthood, how to work with families, multidisciplinary work among children and families,circadian rhythm.
