The students deepen their professional skills and knowledge in medical-surgical nursing. They know how to function in a health promoting way in medical-surgical nursing. They are able to carry out holistic and analytical nursing in compliance with the nursing process. They can apply nursing science and multidisciplinary knowledge in their work with patients.

The content consists of the following elements:

Special issues (Medical and surgical nursing)

- be able to put in practice her/his previous skills and knowledge aswell strenghten her/his professional expertize

- Nursing: Chronical wounds, Atrial fibrillation, Deep Vena Thrombosis and Pulmonary embolus, Heart failure, Prostate ca,

  Benign prostatic hyperplasia, Vascular disorders, Pacing

- Workshops:a coronary thrombosis, subarachnoid bleeding, acute stomach, burns, cardiac rhythm disturbances,

  hemo-and pneumothx, brain death and transplantations

Expertise in Nursing

- develop continuously herself/himself and the work practice of registered nurses and is able to make

  decisions following proffessional ethics and evidence based nursing

- deepen her/his knowledge and skills in elaboration, implementation and evaluation of nursing comprehensively

  taking into account the principles of nursing take a qualitative and economic point of view of nursing into consideration

  at work

- be able to act as an active and responsible member of multiprofessional team

- be able to develop his/her knowledge and skills in promoting patient safety

Intensive care nursing

- provides a foundation for caring for the critically ill patient,

- Nursing: respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation, acute coronary disorders, parenteral nutrition

  and fluid balance management, different type of measurements in ICU.

- develops in critical thinking in complex situations while utilizing the nursing process

- understands the impact of the critical illness and the critical care environment on the adaptive responses

  of the individual, family and group and is able to provide psychological support for them in their crisis

- is familiar with the intensive care environment and techical equipments in the intensive care

Drug administration

- i.v drug administration,the resuscitation drugs, treatment of specific situations

- fluidtherapy, central catheters, blood transfusions

- calculations

Student also:

- follows asepsis and patient safety everywhere

- records, reports and taking care of the patient follow-up care

Drug Administration: The final test in medical calculation, blood transfusion, and net exam in IV fluid and drug therapy in Moodle environment on the 8th of September 2014 at 8.15-9.45 in classroom A403.
