Pedagogical arrangements

In this course students are working individually and as a team.

  1. You will get a list of topics. Study each topic and choose a 3 topics of your own interest. Prepare a short presentation about the topics you selected, what are they and why you have selected this topic.
  2. After the presentation teachers will divide students in to groups (max. 3 students/group). Each group will get instructions how to start working. Teachers will give guidance during the lessons according to the timetable.
  3. Project groupskeep presentations during the project to show their progress.
  4. All materials (reports, analysis, design, videos etc.) will be stored as a portfolio in Mahara. These are a part of the evaluation and a base for discussion with the supervisor.
  5. Each student has to write an individual learning diary. The instructions for the learning diary can be found from our web site The diary will be conducted as a blog in Moodle.
  6. At the end of the course each group will keep a public presentation. Also outsiders are invited.
  7. Evaluation discussion with the groups.

Competence development project goal is to increase and deepen student knowledge in his/her interest area. The project is divided in different sections; selection of topic, designing of a learning and implementation plan, and implementation. Project consists of regular supervision sessions with a teacher and final presentation seminar, where students present their results.


Each student must participate actively to every part of the project. Each student has 162 hours time to do work for project. If it comes obvious that student has used only small part of this, s/he is assesses as failed. Assessment will be based on individual results (learning diary and team working skills) and group work (presentation and portfolio). Each student will make a self-evaluation and the cross-evaluation. Each the group will have an evaluation discussion. Students are assessed for active participation, final presentations and portfolio. Students final grade for the project is the sum of presentations, implementation and final report. Every student must pass acceptably every part of the project. If the student fails one or more parts in project he/she cannot pass the project at all.
