Pedagogical arrangements

Contact lessons, individual studying, assignments (report, memo), spoken, listening and writing excercises. Exam.


Students are provided with written materials and assignments. Moodle is used for submitting material to students and for receiving students assignments - Internet materials, listening comprehensions, Finnish language practices. Material on Finnish culture is also provided via email and is accessed through the Internet.

The student is able to explain and describe patient cases in standard language, participate in workplace communication, when topic is familiar. The student is able to make short texts related to work, read and write patient data under guidance.

  • Extend knowledge of the vocabulary of nursing
  • Strenghten spoken and written communication skills

Grammatical contents:

  • Extend knowledge of grammar
  • Conditional
  • Consideration for a sentence
  • Participle

Course is completed, when student participates actively in contact lessons, completes his/hers homework, demonstrates written and oral skills and does exam.

The course is graded on the scale from 0 to 5, 1 representing the lowest pass grade and 5 representing the highest grade.


  • 5: Student is able to take actively part in the work conversations with familiar topics, explain also complex patient cases when the vocabulary is familiar and write short reports and memos.
  • 3: Student is ableto take part in the work conversations with familiar topics, explain patient cases when the vocabulary is familiar and write understandably reports and memos.
  • 1: Student is ableto follow the work conversations with familiar topics,  explain short patient cases when the vocabulary is very familiar and write rather understandably short reports and memos.
