Objectives

Medication in Nursing 4 ECTS

Competence Goals:

After this course the student can administer safe medical care under the instructions of a physician. S/he is able to monitor medical care and to analyze its impacts. The student knows how to implement pharmaceutical calculations in the medical care of clients from all age groups. The student recognizes the risks involved in a medical care process and s/he is able to apply the information about medication errors to develop and improve the process of medical care.

Learning Outcomes:

The student:

  • knows the legislation of drug administration and understands how to apply it in practice
  • -knows nurse´s role and responsibility in drug administration
  • -can find information about drugs and drug administration and knows how to use Pharmaca Fennica
  • knows how the body handles medications and how drug influences the body and knows how to monitor the effects
  • knows the central concepts of drug administration, different kinds of drugs and the right ways to give medicine
  • understands the meaning of drug calculation in drug administration and can use the basic drug administration information in calculation
  • understands the meaning of asepsis and knows how to carry out it in drug administration
  • knows about the disadvantages, side effects and interactions of drugs
  • gets motivated to constantly develop his/her professional competence in drug administration and understands the importance of it also after graduation
