Strategic management is the art and science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its objectives. Strategic management combines the activities of the various functional areas of a business to achieve organizational objectives. Strategic management provides overall direction to the enterprise. The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with the process of strategic management, activities associated with it (such as information gathering and analysis), and, finally, skills and abilities necessary for strategic management of an enterprise.

Assessment criteria

To pass the course students has to full fill following assessment criteria:

The student understands generally what strategic management is and why it is important. Also, the student knows some of the concepts and tools discussed in the course but (s)he has difficulties in explaining them and applying.

Pedagogical arrangements

The instruction method is based on a combination of lecturing and practical work including group work and exercises. Besides of that, the students are supposed to study at home by reading literature assigned and making homework exercises.

The assessment criteria are the following:


You do not have sufficient knowledge and skills in the subject matter. You have failed to score more than 50 points in the course assignments.


You understand mostly correctly the subject matter concepts and are able to apply them. However, there is a room for development in your assignments. Technological, business challenges and recommendations are rather general and not elaborated in details. Your analysis is not systematic, comprehensive and logical. There are very few conclusions and development suggestions, which are basic and self-evident. There are also significant deficiencies in their justification and application.


You have a good overall picture of elements and factors of strategic management and their business value for enterprises. You are able to identify the essential strategic management activities, technologies and evaluate their business benefits. However, your analysis and proposal are rather common in the field and are not justified properly.


You understand very well the subject matter concepts and are able to apply them correctly. You also understand well different factors affecting the strategic management process at enterprises. Additionally, you are able to give useful development recommendations utilizing your knowledge and skills.


You are able to analyze correctly the business challenges of the enterprises and recommend appropriate strategic management activities. Your ideas are presented clearly and with a good argument.


You understand deeply the subject matter concepts and are able to apply them correctly. You also understand well and are able to analyze critically different factors affecting strategic management of enterprises. Additionally, you are able to give useful development recommendations with proper argumentation in different situations.

This course includes five core assignments, which are done either individually or in a group according to the class instructions. The mandatory assignments are assessed with points summing up to 100 in total. Additionally, the module includes several activities by successfully completing which you can get extra points. The final grade is determined according to the overall number of points you get by completing assignments and activities.

51 - 60 points

Grade 2 - Satisfactory

61 - 70 points

Grade 3 - Good

71 - 80 points

Grade 4 - Very good

81 - 90 points
