Osaamistavoitteet ja teemat

The student understands the meaning of engineering design in the product design process and knows the basic principles and tools. He/she knows the phases of the design process and can apply the principles of creative work. The student is introduced to practical design work by doing simple design exercises and he/she can apply the knowledge learned in the course. The student learns the basics of property laws and regulations in engineering design (patent law in Finland etc.) The knowledge learned in previous studies is applied in practice in the course. Detailed topics: The concept of engineering design; The philosophy of product design; Creative work vs. systematic work; the use of engineering work models; Design tools; Industrial design; Engineering design process; Property laws in Finland; Technical documentation in engineering design.

 
Arviointikriteerit

Assessment 0-5. The assessment is based on the examination and the design assignment. 1: The student can use the methods defined in the course with guidance. There are clear lacks of knowledge. 3: The student  can spontaneously use the methods defined in the course. Deeper knowledge is missing. 5: The student can use and in practice apply the knowledge learned during the course and can use it in new contexts. The student is able to work independently on the basis of the knowledge learned in the course.
